In my garage

Measurements, paper templates, cardboard mockups, and the first aluminum rack.

Me, the Scout, and an early mockup.

I wanted to keep my seat

The seat and fender gave me the dimensions to work around. I could check each drawing and mockup on the same motorcycle before ordering metal.

Measuring the bike

Tape measure checking the rear seat and fender area
The seat and fender, before the rack.
Paper rack drawings and tools on the workbench
Taking those measurements back to the drawing.

Trying a cardboard mockup

Folded cardboard mockup over the Scout rear fender
A folded shape I can move around on the motorcycle.

Checking the paper template

A closer look at the outline on the bike.

Designing the radiator guard

Hand-drawn dimensions for the radiator guard
Notes and dimensions on paper.
